About Dr Kim
Dr Kim Tan is a Perth-based Designated Aviation Medical Examiners (DAME). She completed the Australian Certificate of Civil Aviation Medicine ( ACCAM) course at Monash University and has been providing DAME services since 2016 in WA. Prior to this, she has worked with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Alice Springs as an aeromedical retrieval doctor and had the opportunity to see some of the most spectacular sunrises, sunsets, night skies of Central Australia from the PC12.
She is passionate about assisting pilots to obtain their medicals whether it’s an initial and clearance to return to the skies when there has been a period of lapse or grounding. She is dedicated to keeping her knowledge of aviation medicine up to date and very keen to answer any queries or questions you may have at any point as your DAME.
Class 1 Medical Certificate
Class 1 Medical Certificate is necessary for professional pilots, including those with an Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) etc. It typically remains valid for a period of one year, unless specified otherwise.
Class 2 Medical Certificate
Class 2 medical certificate for a private pilot license (PPL) is valid for four years for applicants under 40 years old and two years for applicants over 40 years old.
Class 3 Medical Certificate
Class 3 medical certificate for air traffic controllers is valid for two years. However, there are some exceptions:
Age 40 and older: For holders aged 40 or older, the medical certificate is valid for 12 months.
Additional conditions: The medical clearance may have additional conditions or restrictions.
Ophthalmology: For those over 60, an ophthalmology examination is required every two years
Medical Clearance (Change in Medical Condition)
If you experience a change in your medical condition lasting more than 7 days (for class 1) or more than 30 days ( for class 2 & 3), you need to notify your DAME
